How to measure
jackets and coats
for a listing.
4 numbers buyers ask for. Lay it flat on a table, buttoned or zipped, and smooth it out before you start.
- APit to pitZipped or buttoned, straight across the front from armpit seam to armpit seam.
- BLengthAt the back, from the base of the collar straight down to the hem.
- CSleeveFrom the shoulder seam to the end of the cuff.
- DShoulderAcross the back, from one shoulder seam to the other. It's the one that decides if it fits.
What makes
the number wrong.
- Measuring open: an open jacket adds or loses inches depending on how it falls.
- Measuring the front length, which is longer on coats with a curved hem.
- Leaving shoulder off. On structured jackets it matters more than pit to pit.
